Understanding the Role of Community Interpreting

You speak two or more languages fluently, enjoy supporting others and would love to use your language skills in your work. In community interpreting you will be doing all these things. This introductory course to community interpreting will help you gain an understanding of what the job of a community interpreter entails, what skills you already have, and what skills you need to develop. During the course you will learn about the areas where community interpreters work, you will also be introduced to the main public services in England. This course is also an introduction to the most common techniques used by community interpreters, you will practice interpreting with role plays and you will also be able to see other learners interpreting and doing sight-translation. You will meet other learners from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds and develop your understanding of other cultures.
